In 2014, 20 years later, the San Carlos Charter Learning Center maintains an average of 300 students and remains one of the oldest and strongest charter schools in the country.

Where are the good schools in San Carlos?

San Carlos has an excellent school system. Most public schools are zoned in the San Carlos School District, although there are a few schools located within the neighboring city of Belmont.

Stanford University, one of the country’s most prestigious universities, is located just 7.3 miles south of San Carlos, an easy 17 minute drive. Other nearby schools include Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont and San Mateo College in San Mateo, CA.

What are the best things to do in San Carlos?

There are a lot of fun things to do in San Carlos. You’ll find more than 10 beautiful parks scattered around the city where you can picnic and relax with the family. Eaton Park and Big Canyon Park have scenic hiking trails that offer rustic views and a good workout. Arguello Park, the largest San Carlos park, has 12 barbeque pits, 8 picnic sites, a baseball field, a soccer field, and public facilities. For a relaxing afternoon, take the family to the San Carlos Museum of History or the Hiller Aviation Museum to experience a piece of the city’s past. You can also visit the downtown area where you’ll enjoy lots of great shops, restaurants and fun-filled events like the Hot Harvest Nights Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 4-8 PM, May through September. The downtown area hosts numerous special events throughout the year like the Chicken’s Ball in April, an all-volunteer event to benefit San Carlos schools; San Carlos Summer Concerts held on Friday nights in the summer; and the Art and Wine Faire in October; October through December you’ll love the Goblin Walk and the Night of Holiday Lights.
